My search about acting
Introduction
If we observe the road of history, we find the first actor in front of the temple of Dionysus. In ancient Greece Acting and Drama used as a ritual to satisfy god Dionysius. Dram was so popular in that era. Even Dram competitions were organized to choose best dramas. Those were musicals. Actors used masks to show joy and sorrow. Achilles was the first drama writer while Schofeless become the popular writer. They lived in 4th century BC. They build many acting techniques still use widely by many Actors. My effort is to find these techniques. Application of these techniques is up to each actor. Most important thing is not the technique but building the character effectively.
What is acting?
Acting is creating situations and characters in the script by using actor’s body organs. Miming is the main quality in the acting. It is the media that take the meaning and feel towards spectator. According to Saku dram culture and Barahta Muni (Indian Dram writer who wrote the Natya Shasthram) Miming has four main qualities.
1. Body
Using ones body to recreate character.
2. Verbal
Using voice to produce the character. (Yell to show rage)
3. Dressing
Using masks, costumes to produce the situation. (To show a roman solider dress like one.)
4. Emotions
Using tears sweat etc to produce situations.
Like the water gets the shape of the vessel it puts, actor has to get the shape of the character. Though he doesn’t change physically he has to create the emotional situation. Controlling his body is very important in this process. Every director gives a special training to the actor before go in to original act. This called as acting rehearsals. To shape actors into the character he imagines directors use many techniques. Let’s see how these techniques developed through the history.
